I am a photographer and a bilingual poet in Italian and in English. I explore the boundary between the visible and the non-visible, and between il mondo scritto e il mondo non scritto - the written wor(l)d and the unwritten wor(l)d, in Italo Calvino's beautiful phrase.
Some projects bring poems and images together, but I neither take photographs thinking of a specific poem, nor do I write a poem to illustrate an image. Photography and poetry have become the focus of my artistic and professional life in recent years, but I have decades-long experience in philosophical and political research, with a record of peer-reviewed essays, books for learners of Italian, and translations. I have received photography awards in international competitions and have participated in group exhibits in the United States and in Europe. I was born in 1952 in the Italian city of Turin, where I studied political philosophy. I continued specializing in that field at Columbia University in New York, where I did a Ph.D. in Political Science. I taught Political Theory in the Department of Political Science and then managed the Center for Western European Studies at the University Michigan, Ann Arbor. I moved back to Italy in the late 2021, where I divide my time between Torino and Gressoney St. Jean, in the Italian Alps. You can download my full resume by clicking here |
