is the biological process which changes the cellular structure of a living creature, giving origin to a completely different one: from caterpillar, to pupa, to butterfly. In
ancient history, and in literature, metamorphosis described thetransformation of a human being into a natural entity, often an animal or a tree: Ulysses’ mates
become swines, Daphne, a laurel tree, Pier Della Vigna, a thorny bush, Gregor Samsa, a giant vermin.
I represent human beings who are appropriated, incorporated, or “used” by a humble natural object, such as a fern, grasses or a contorted tree. Both humans and
plants appear unaware of what is happening. We cannot even tell what creature, if any, will emerge from their fusion. The process shown here is, therefore, the
carrier of ambivalent meanings and uncertain outcomes.
